Mechatronics…a new Update in Engineering

Mechatronics engineering is concerned with the design of all automated machines. It is strongly based on the combination of mechanical, electronics and software engineering, but has a distinctly different discipline to all three.
This field differs from automation engineering. It requires  a person to have deeper understanding or knowledge about the performance analysis and design of complex machines. A mechatronics engineer in best engineering college in pune is capable of thinking entirely about a system, rather than of focussing on certain domain and specific elements such as mechanical system or the software.

These engineers  work with electronic instrumentation and computer control systems which nearly all machinery depend on for efficient and reliable operation.
This field also have roles in project engineering, reliability engineering and as well as power engineering where cross-disciplinary knowledge can  gives them an edge on mechanical or electrical engineers. .  It can work with electrical as well as on mechanical and can solve problems that cross discipline boundaries.  Their strength in IT, computer hardware and networking as well as software helps them to be a flexible problem solvers. Writing and testing the software for specialised computer systems and micro-controllers forms a very major part of the work of many mechatronic engineers.
Like all engineers, technical combination takes most of a these students working time. By its nature, this field involves extensive combination with people working in more traditional engineering disciplines.
There are some job vacancies labelled “mechatronic engineer” than other disciplines.  There are still not many experienced mechatronic engineers available, so most of the employers would not want to restrict the field of applicants by calling only for a mechatronic engineer.  Positions for this field are often advertised as:
  • Asset Management engineer
  • Automation engineer
  • Data Logging engineer
  • Electrical/Electronic engineer
  • Electro mechanical engineer
  • Instrumentation engineer
  • Maintenance engineer
  • Plant engineer
  • Process engineer
  • Process monitoring and plant systems engineer

There are multiple students who started dreaming from childhood itself regarding obtaining higher studies from Abroad, IIT’s, or IIM. Lakhs of students passed out every year from engineering colleges, but not many of them are able to build promising careers. Indeed, what assures them a promising career? How a student should prepare oneself during their engineering for higher studies and work to get a good career opening in this competitive world? Higher studies will generally help you to develop important transferable life skills – such as public speaking, research skills, presentation and report writing. It is therefore important that you choose your field carefully, and select a course that benefits you and is relevant to your career path.

After completion of engineering there are various ways of obtaining master’s degree like ME/M.tech, MBA, and M.S. and afterward if one is still enthusiastic can go for PhD. But to urge these Master’s degree student’s need to appear  for various exams e.g. For M.Tech/ME- GATE, for M.S-GRE, for Master in Business – CAT/MAT/GMAT, and different exams  like TOFEL,IELTS, civil services exams like CSAT, and IES. So, to face these competitive exams students desire support not solely from folks however conjointly from college. Therefore engineering colleges ought to have some committee to promote awareness of higher studies among students. The ideal role of Higher Education committee at college level is to promote students for higher studies and to make sure maximum enrollment of students. They can inspire students by arranging some expert seminar’s and group discussions.
 Competitive Exams

Does organizing workshops make an impact on students?

It is common in most colleges providing higher education facility to organize workshops from time to time. Universities have reserved funds for seminars and workshops and it is mandatory for all affiliated colleges to utilize the funds in the stipulated period for organizing workshops. In Engineering College in Pune, it has become a trend; colleges make it a capital issue for attracting students. The question is,does it bear any impact on students? What are the benefits of organizing workshops? It is not simple to organize workshops. It is a kind of mega event that needs a lot of preparation and ground work. Organizing workshops is also expensive. The faculty members and non-teaching staff have to do extra work. The venue has to be decided, arrangements have to be made for guest speakers, there is the sound system, the seating arrangement, refreshments, LCD and so many minor details that have to be attended to. The students also have to work as volunteers. In spite of the additional workload, many educational institutions make it a point to organize workshops. We find sometimes that a workshop proves to be a complete failure. In such cases, it is a waste of time and money.
Workshops fail if they are not properly planned. There are many factors that have to be taken into account before Engg Colleges in Pune organizes a workshop if you really want workshops to make the desired impact on students.

Topic: the topic for the workshop must be important in current times. It should be related to current issues so that it has value in terms of significance. It should enlighten participants, add to their knowledge and motivate them.

Participants: Who is going to participate? How many participants can be accommodated? How much interest do they have in the topic? How is the workshop going to benefit them? These questions must be considered beforehand.

Venue: Is the venue at a convenient location? Is it enough to accommodate the number of participants comfortably? Is there a screen, a blackboard / whiteboard, LCD projector, table, chairs and other necessary things?

Resource persons: This is the most crucial factor while organizing a workshop. The resource persons must be carefully selected. They must be experts in the subject. They must be able to understand the exact needs of the students and present the topic accordingly. Irrelevant discussions are not appreciated by students and it affects the attendance during workshops.

Activities: In some workshops, some activities are assigned to students. The materials for activities must be sufficient and provided in time. There must be enough space and proper arrangement otherwise the result is chaos and confusion. The situation becomes unmanageable and the intention of the activities is not fulfilled. Volunteers and staff members must provide help and support to the resource persons while conducting activities.

Benefits
Organizing workshops have several benefits. Students get acquainted with expert personnel from industry. They get more knowledge from people outside the institution. It is a healthy change from the academic routine. Workshops provide opportunity for practical work. Students get various perspectives and are motivated to think from different angles. They can interact with industry people.

If a workshop is well-organized and if the objectives of the workshop are fulfilled, it certain creates the desired impact on students.
